Proposition 8

This ballot measure amended the California Constitution to eliminate the right of same-sex couples to marry, overturning a state Supreme Court decision that had legalized same-sex marriage earlier in 2008. The measure passed with 52.3% of the vote, defining marriage as only between a man and a woman in the state constitution.
