Nuclear Power. Initiative Statute.

This measure would have required California's two existing nuclear power plants, Diablo Canyon and San Onofre, to meet the same preconditions as new nuclear plants before continuing electricity production, including federal approval of permanent high-level nuclear waste disposal technology. The measure also would have required case-by-case findings that adequate facilities exist to reprocess or store the plants' fuel rods, with all findings subject to potential legislative rejection.
